Top-order batter Tazmin Brits is poised for a comeback after being named in the 16-member squad for the upcoming tour of India, commencing on June 16.

Brits, who underwent knee surgery in April, will undergo a fitness assessment before the team’s departure to ascertain her readiness for the multi-format tour, which includes three ODIs, as many T20Is, and a one-off Test.

The tour opener in Bengaluru will feature three ODIs, forming part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022-25.

South Africa will miss Lara Goodall (minor hamstring), Chloe Tryon (back), and Ayanda Hlubi (groin), who are recovering from injuries among the nationally contracted players.

Their participation remains uncertain, pending the selectors’ decision on the squad for the concluding T20I leg in Chennai.

The experienced squad marks the return of SA Emerging all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase, recalled after the Bangladesh tour in December 2023.

Additionally, wicketkeeper Mieke de Ridder is set for a comeback after missing the recent Sri Lanka tour due to a hand injury.

“Preparation has been excellent so far.

We’ve emphasized strategies against spin, and the team’s commitment has been commendable,” stated interim head coach Dillon du Preez.

“With new management onboard, it’s a great opportunity for them to acclimate before we shift focus to the World Cup preparation.

“Our focus will be on adapting quickly to the conditions, maintaining composure under pressure, and seizing pivotal moments in the game.

A series against India in their home conditions is always a stern test,” he added.

Reflecting on the Sri Lanka series, du Preez emphasized the team’s consensus on the need for improved consistency in execution.

Ahead of their departure on June 8, the selected squad will undergo a four-day pre-tour camp in Tshwane.
