PSL 2024: Rizwan and Charles as well as Multan Sultans bowlers have secured top spot in the standings

Charles blazes to 53 runs off a mere 29 balls.

Multan Sultans scored 185/4 in 20 overs, where as Quetta Gladiators scored 106 in 15.5 overs.

So, finally Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 79 runs.

Multan Sultans surged into the playoffs of PSL 2024 following a commanding 79-run triumph over Quetta Gladiators in the final league encounter of the season.

This victory not only secured their position at the top of the standings but also guaranteed them two opportunities to advance to the final.

The stellar performance was highlighted by a superb batting display led by Mohammad Rizwan and Johnson Charles, both scoring half-centuries, propelling the team to a formidable total of 185 before the bowlers took control, securing a resounding win over their opponents ahead of the post-league eliminator clash.

Facing the Gladiators, the Sultans encountered an early setback with opener Yasir Khan’s dismissal due to a mistimed pull shot off Mohammed Amir.

However, Rizwan and Usman Khan steadied the innings, achieving a steady powerplay score of 43, boosted significantly by a 17-run fifth over against Abrar Ahmed.

Despite Usman Khan’s departure, the Sultans maintained a steady pace, reaching 70/2 at the halfway mark.

Upon Charles joining Rizwan, the duo injected momentum into the innings, with each batter striking a six in the subsequent overs.

While Rizwan approached his half-century, Charles showcased his prowess, hitting boundaries and sixes with finesse.

Rizwan’s departure for a well-crafted 69 was followed by Charles continuing his onslaught, punishing Usman Tariq with more boundaries and sixes.

Charles, reaching a rapid half-century in just 27 balls, received valuable support from Iftikhar Ahmed in the final overs, as the Sultans amassed 77 runs in the last six overs, setting a daunting target of 185, reminiscent of Peshawar’s successful defense of 147 on the same ground the previous night.

In the chase, the Gladiators faltered early, losing wickets at regular intervals.

David Willey’s dismissal of Jason Roy triggered a heated exchange, while Saud Shakeel’s run-out compounded their woes.

Despite Omair Yousuf’s resilient 37, the Gladiators never regained momentum, succumbing to Usama Mir and Willey’s bowling prowess, eventually getting bowled out in under 16 overs.

With this victory, the Sultans are set to face Peshawar Zalmi in the first qualifier clash, scheduled for Thursday (March 14), while the Gladiators will battle Islamabad United in the Eliminator clash the following evening.
