Continuing their dominant streak in PSL 2024, the Multan Sultans secured their sixth win in seven matches and clinched a spot in the playoffs by outclassing the Karachi Kings by 20 runs at the National Stadium on Sunday (March 3).

Led by Usman Khan’s unbeaten 106 off 59 balls and Mohammad Rizwan’s 58 off 44, the Sultans set a challenging target of 189/3.

Despite a collective effort from the Karachi Kings’ bowlers, the hosts could only manage 169/7, succumbing to their fourth loss in six matches.

Opting to bat first, the Sultans encountered an early setback with the dismissal of Reeza Hendricks in the second over.

However, Usman Khan ensured a productive powerplay, consistently finding boundaries to push the score to 50/1 after 6 overs.

Meanwhile, Rizwan played a supporting role as the partnership flourished, reaching 87/1 at the halfway mark.

Usman’s fifty came off 32 balls, followed by Rizwan’s half-century off 40 deliveries, with the duo approaching a 150-run partnership.

Although Blessing Muzarabani broke the stand by dismissing Rizwan, Usman continued his onslaught, reaching his second PSL hundred with a six off Mir Hamza, ending with 10 fours and 5 sixes.

In response, the Karachi Kings lost Tim Seifert and James Vince early, struggling at 79/3 by the halfway stage despite a steady partnership between Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik.

However, the Kings’ hopes dwindled as both Masood and Malik fell in quick succession, leaving them at 99/5 after 13 overs.

Despite efforts from Irfan Khan, the required run rate remained daunting for the Kings, who eventually fell short.

Mohammad Nawaz and Hasan Ali’s late strikes only narrowed the margin of defeat as the Multan Sultans celebrated another commanding victory, consolidating their position at the top of the points table.
