Opener Sophia Dunkley stands poised for her T20I return, having secured a spot in England’s 16-member squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
Unfortunately, 18-year-old pace sensation Mahika Gaur has been sidelined due to a side strain, rendering her unavailable for selection.
Dunkley’s inclusion marks the lone change in an otherwise unchanged squad from the one that clinched the T20I series against Pakistan in May.
Allrounder Freya Kemp, who featured solely as a batter in the previous series, has been declared fit to resume bowling duties.
The five-match T20I series, crucial preparation for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh this October, will commence in Southampton on July 6.
Hove will host the second encounter on July 9, followed by the third T20I at Canterbury on July 11, before culminating with two fixtures in the capital, scheduled for July 13 at the Kia Oval and July 17 at Lord’s.
“This five-match series against a formidable New Zealand side holds great significance for us and serves as vital preparation as we gear up for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh,” remarked head coach Jon Lewis.
“We are delighted to welcome back Freya Kemp in her dual role as an all-rounder, and we anticipate her contributions with both bat and ball throughout this series as she returns from injury.
“Sophia Dunkley’s return to the squad follows her impressive performances at the regional level, duly earning her place in the team.
“Despite Mahika Gaur’s absence due to a minor side strain, we aim to have her involved with the squad as she recuperates,” Lewis added.
Following the T20I series, three ODIs will follow, with the squad for these matches set to be announced at a later date.
