James Neesham to assess his international future after the T20 World Cup.

News of New Zealand: Neesham to decide his international future after the T20 World Cup

Neesham has played a crucial role in New Zealand’s white-ball setup in recent years.

New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham announced on Thursday that he will assess his international career after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, set to take place in the USA and West Indies from June onwards.

Currently representing Rangpur Riders in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, Neesham shared his thoughts during a practice session at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.

“I don’t set many long-term goals.

The immediate focus is on the T20 World Cup in a couple of months, aiming to secure victory for New Zealand.

Following that, I’ll take a moment to reflect on my international future, considering whether to continue representing New Zealand or to pursue full-time T20 opportunities,” Neesham informed reporters.

“As an all-rounder, playing until the age of 35-36 is commendable.

I’ll prioritize maintaining my fitness and staying in optimal condition,” he added optimistically.

“Hopefully, I can avoid injuries and prolong my cricketing career, contributing to successful teams along the way.”

Neesham also highlighted Bangladesh’s potential as a dark horse in the upcoming T20 World Cup, praising the nation’s advancements in talent and cricketing infrastructure.

He specifically lauded Bangladesh’s emerging pace bowling unit.

“In recent years, Bangladesh cricket has made remarkable progress, particularly in the pace bowling department.

Previously, we held a significant advantage over them in our bouncy conditions, but players like Shoriful have demonstrated the ability to swing the ball with pace and extract bounce,” Neesham remarked.

“Bangladesh’s strong performance in New Zealand is a testament to their growth.

They’ll be a formidable opponent in the T20 World Cup, especially considering the challenging conditions in the West Indies,” he noted.

“I believe Bangladesh cricket possesses immense potential, and they have several talented players within their ranks,” Neesham concluded, expressing optimism for their future prospects.
