Pakistan leg-spinner and former World Cup winner, Mushtaq Ahmed, has joined the Bangladesh men’s national team as their new spin bowling coach.

His contract will run until the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.

Mushtaq steps into this role, replacing Rangana Herath, who departed from the position last year following the opening Test against New Zealand.

The 53-year-old will integrate into the Bangladesh team ahead of the preparation camp later this month for the T20 series against Zimbabwe.

Expressing his excitement, Mushtaq stated in a BCB press release, “It is a great honor for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach.

I am looking forward to the role and want to pass my experience to the players because they are very coachable and I always believe that they are one of the most dangerous teams around.”

“They can beat anyone because they have the capability, the resources, and the talent.

I will try to instill that belief into them.

I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the team,” he added.

Mushtaq, who amassed 185 Test wickets and 161 ODI wickets in his playing career, previously served as the spin bowling coach for England (2008-2014), West Indies (2018-19), and Pakistan (2020-22).

Additionally, he held the position of the Pakistan team’s bowling consultant from 2014 to 2016.
