Fast bowler Mohammad Amir announced on Sunday his decision to end his retirement in hopes of representing Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies in June.

The announcement from Amir, who had retired from international cricket towards the end of 2020, coincides with the PCB’s unveiling of their new seven-member selection panel, which includes four former Test cricketers.

“I still dream of playing for Pakistan!,” Amir declared on X (formerly Twitter).

“Life sometimes leads us to reconsider our decisions.

After some positive discussions with the PCB, where they respectfully conveyed that I am needed and can still contribute to Pakistan cricket, and after consulting with my family and well-wishers, I am declaring my availability for the upcoming T20 WC.”

“I am doing this for my country, putting its interests before my personal decisions.

Representing Pakistan and wearing the green jersey has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspiration [sic].”

Amir, who burst onto the international scene as a prodigy at 17, has amassed 50 T20Is since his debut in 2009.

During these appearances, he claimed 59 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 7.02.

His most recent T20 performances were seen in this year’s PSL, where he secured 10 wickets in 9 matches for Quetta Gladiators.
