Mahela Jayawardene has resigned from his position as Consultant Coach of Sri Lanka with immediate effect, Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Wednesday (June 26).

“During his tenure, Jayawardene helped implement significant changes to the structure of the national team ecosystem and the High-Performance Center,” stated the board.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes Mahela all the best in his future endeavors and thanks him for his services during his tenure,” they added.

Jayawardene first took up the role in 2022 for a period of one year, which was later extended for another year.

While no reason was specified for his resignation, it follows a disappointing World Cup campaign for Sri Lanka, where they failed to reach the Super 8 stage.
