Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar have been conditionally included in India’s all-formats squad for the upcoming home series against South Africa, starting with the first of three ODIs on June 16.

Rodrigues missed India’s previous international assignment, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, due to a back niggle and is currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru alongside Harleen Deol, who is recovering from knee surgery.

Consequently, Deol, who was part of India’s home season last winter, misses out.

Vastrakar, who featured in all five games in Sylhet, needs a fitness certificate from the NCA for an undisclosed niggle.

For the 50-over format, Asha Sobhana has received her maiden call-up, while Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, and Priya Punia could make their international comebacks.

Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry also returns in Yastika Bhatia’s absence, likely as backup to Richa Ghosh.

Bhatia, usually the second choice in white-ball cricket to Ghosh, might now play her first Test as India’s keeper after being backed as a pure batter against Australia on debut in Mumbai last December.

Uncapped in ODIs, Reddy returns to the squad in the T20 format after last playing for India in 2021.

For Reddy and Punia, it’s also a maiden Test call-up.

Shubha Satheesh, who sustained a finger injury in her debut Test against England and subsequently missed the one against Australia, returns only for red-ball cricket, while left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad and allrounder Sneh Rana are limited to the Test squad.

The selectors have opted for continuity in the T20 format, just four months out from the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, retaining the majority of the squad from the April-May tour.

Pacer Titas Sadhu misses out, while Saika Ishaque has been demoted to reserves.

South Africa will play a warm-up 50-over game against the Board President’s XI in Bengaluru on June 13 before the ODI series begins.

The action then shifts to Chepauk in Chennai for the one-off Test starting June 28—the first between the two countries in nearly a decade—before concluding with the T20I leg starting July 5.

Except for the Test, all white-ball matches are day-night affairs.
