Jasprit Bumrah is set to rejoin the squad ahead of Dharamsala Test

Jasprit Bumrah sat out of the fourth Test in Ranchi due to rest.

Jasprit Bumrah, who had been rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi to manage his workload ahead of a busy schedule including an IPL campaign followed closely by the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, will return to the squad for the series-ending Dharamsala Test against England.

The 30-year-old vice-captain had displayed outstanding form in the first three games of the series, claiming 17 wickets at an average of 13.64.

His absence in Ranchi saw Bengal seamer Akash Deep stepping in.

With Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar also available, India’s options for the Test, which is anticipated to favor fast bowlers, remain diverse.

Meanwhile, senior batter KL Rahul has been officially ruled out of the Test due to a quadriceps injury sustained during the series-opening Test in Hyderabad.

Despite undergoing surgery for the issue last year, Rahul’s recovery has not been complete, prompting the BCCI, selectors, and team management to prioritize caution.

Rahul has sought an expert opinion in London to address the ongoing stiffness in his right quadriceps, a concern heightened by his pivotal role in the team.

In other squad updates, Washington Sundar has been released to participate in the Ranji Trophy semifinal fixture for Tamil Nadu against Mumbai, scheduled to commence on March 2.

He will be available to rejoin the Test squad in Dharamsala following the conclusion of the domestic fixture.

India’s revised squad for the 5th Test includes:

Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.
