INDIA 118/3 BEFORE THE LUNCH:
Rohit Sharma’s fifty failed to steady India’s nerves on the fourth morning of the Ranchi Test as England’s spinners kept them in contention to level the series.
India, resuming from 40/0 in pursuit of 192, saw their openers put on 84 runs before England mounted a strong comeback.
Rohit started positively, hitting a remarkable six off James Anderson’s bowling in the next over after starting with a maiden.
Despite some probing deliveries from Shoaib Bashir, the openers navigated through without much trouble.
Yashasvi Jaiswal then found his rhythm with regular boundaries, including a reverse sweep against Tom Hartley.
However, England struck back when Joe Root was introduced into the attack.
Jaiswal’s aggression led to his downfall as he mistimed a shot, resulting in a catch by Anderson.
Although Rohit reached his fifty, England capitalized on the opportunity.
Rohit survived a close stumping chance and soon after, Rajat Patidar fell for a duck, leaving India reeling at 100/3 from a comfortable position of 84/0.
Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill navigated through a tense period till lunch, hoping to stabilize India’s innings.
