England Tour of India Test Series, 2024

England have maintained control over India on the second morning

Joe Root dismissed the overnight centurion as England slowed down India’s scoring.

England continued to keep India in check with some early breakthroughs in the morning session, pushing them into a rebuilding phase.

First, James Anderson made an impact with the new ball, inducing an edge from Kuldeep Yadav, the night watchman, to send him back to the pavilion.

Shortly after, Ravindra Jadeja, the centurion, attempted to hit Joe Root down the ground but only managed to offer a simple return catch to the bowler.

With India losing two wickets for just five runs in the morning session and slipping to 331/7, they were at risk of posting a below-par total on a placid pitch.

However, any concerns were alleviated by a resilient partnership between debutant Dhruv Jurel and R Ashwin, who exhibited patience and sensible batting.

While opportunities for boundaries arose occasionally, with the pitch showing no signs of treachery, the pair steadily guided India’s innings forward.

Jurel displayed some adventurous strokes, including an uppercut against the aggressive Mark Wood, but largely played according to the merit of the deliveries.

He also countered Wood’s leg-side traps defiantly, while Ashwin adopted a similarly cautious approach.

Together, they took India to lunch with an unbroken 49-run partnership.
