England Tour of India Test Series, 2024

3rd Test Day-1 Session-1

Rohit Sharma’s resilient fifty sparks India’s recovery following a disastrous start

India headed into the lunch break at 93/3.

India faced a daunting start after electing to bat in the third Test at Rajkot, but captain Rohit Sharma steadied the ship with an undefeated 52 by lunch on the opening day.

Despite winning the toss on a placid pitch, India failed to capitalize, losing both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to Mark Wood’s sharp bowling early on.

The troubles compounded when Rajat Patidar departed after chipping a catch to short cover off Tom Hartley’s first over.

With the score at 33/3, India faced the risk of further collapse as pressure mounted.

However, Rohit, showing patience and determination, gradually began to assert himself.

He survived a scare when England skipper Root dropped a sharp chance at slip when Rohit was on 27, attempting to take on Hartley.

Additionally, he overturned an LBW decision against James Anderson upon review, having inside-edged the ball.

Rohit continued to take calculated risks, dispatching Hartley for a boundary and confidently maneuvering Anderson for runs.

His stroke of luck further propelled him to capitalize on boundary opportunities, eventually reaching his 17th Test fifty.

Ravindra Jadeja, promoted to No. 5, partnered with Rohit, forming a successful left-right combination.

The experienced duo orchestrated a valuable 60-run partnership for India, stabilizing the innings.
