Cricket Australia has awarded central contracts to four new players for the 2024-25 season, but veteran all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been omitted from their 23-man list.

Xavier Bartlett, with just three appearances for Australia, all in 2024, joins Nathan Ellis, Matt Short, and Aaron Hardie.

While Bartlett secures his place for the first time, the other three players have effectively maintained their spots.

Despite initially not receiving contracts, they earned upgrades throughout the season by representing Australia in ODIs and T20Is.

Given that the contract comes into effect after this year’s T20 World Cup, David Warner misses out as he plans to retire from international cricket following the event.

Stoinis, who lost his ODI spot during last year’s World Cup, remains in contention for the T20 World Cup but hasn’t been awarded a contract.

Ashton Agar, Marcus Harris, and Michael Neser are also excluded from last year’s list.

Matt Renshaw, recently included in squads as a backup batter after Warner’s Test retirement, and T20 specialist Tim David are not included.

However, despite not featuring for Australia since June 2022 due to injuries, Jhye Richardson retains his spot.
