Melbourne Renegades have made a significant statement by securing the services of power-hitter Josh Brown on a two-year contract.

The move comes as a blow to defending champions Brisbane Heat, as Brown played a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign earlier this year.

Brown grabbed headlines with his explosive batting display, notably smashing a record-breaking 57-ball 140 in the Challenger against Adelaide Strikers, where he struck an astonishing 12 sixes.

His contributions continued in the final, where his crucial half-century against Sydney Sixers helped propel Heat to victory.

His standout performances also earned him a coveted contract to play in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Reflecting on the signing, Queensland Cricket General Manager – Elite Teams, Performance & Pathways, Joe Dawes, expressed disappointment at losing Brown but acknowledged the lure of a multi-year commitment for the player.

Despite making a competitive offer to retain him, Dawes emphasized Brown’s special place in Heat’s history and wished him success in his future endeavors.

For the Renegades, Brown’s arrival fills the void left by the recent retirements of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, providing a boost to their batting lineup.

Excited about the new challenge, Brown expressed gratitude to the Heat for providing him with opportunities while eagerly anticipating the prospect of achieving success with the Renegades.

He highlighted the team’s youthful talent and firepower, expressing enthusiasm to partner with players like Jake Fraser-McGurk and Will Sutherland in pursuit of further accomplishments.
