Colin Munro has re-signed for the Big Bash League franchise Brisbane Heat on a multi-year contract until 2026.

The swashbuckling left-handed batter from New Zealand, who retired from international cricket in May, will be available for all matches for the Heat.

Munro’s contract with Desert Vipers in the ILT20 meant he wasn’t available for the full season of the BBL in the last two years.

With this new contract, however, he will be there to feature in all the matches, including the finals should the Heat make it there.

Munro has amassed 10,961 runs in all T20s with a strike rate of 141.25 in 428 matches.

In January 2018, he held the record for being the first player to score three T20I centuries, achieving the feat by scoring 104 off 53 balls against West Indies.

He is also the second fastest to 100 T20I sixes in terms of balls faced (963), behind only Evin Lewis.

Brisbane Heat, who won the 2023-24 season of the Big Bash, hope the retention of Munro will help them defend their crown later this year.

Munro said he was excited to be part of the squad and couldn’t wait for the opportunities that await him during the summer.

“It’s a strong squad again, and I’m looking forward to being part of what we can build together.

There are always opportunities to get better, and as a group, we should be excited about the new goals we will pursue this summer.

“Playing at a packed Gabba again, especially in front of family and friends, is such a highlight, and the way the fans have embraced the team in the past few seasons has been brilliant to experience,” Munro said.
