Former Bangladesh skipper Jahanara Alam has announced her intention to pursue a coaching career post-retirement.

On Friday, Jahanara attended a Level A coaching workshop at Mirpur, led by the country’s leading coach, Mohammad Salahuddin.

The pacer last played international cricket in May 2023 and has since been outside the national setup.

She has been striving to catch the selection panel’s attention through her performance in the ongoing Women’s Dhaka Premier League, where she has taken 13 wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 3.42 in the 50-over tournament.

However, the team management seems more focused on developing young pacers rather than relying on experienced players like Jahanara.

“I see coaching as a potential career because I love coaching and playing cricket.

I have turned down other roles because my passion lies in coaching,” Jahanara told reporters.

“I love coaching, and maybe in the future, if Allah wills, I will pursue it.

For now, I want to continue playing cricket with Allah’s blessings,” she added, noting that participating in coaching workshops also benefits her as a player.

“Taking part in coaching courses enhances my understanding of the game.

This opportunity allows me to improve my cricket knowledge,” she said.

“What Sir (Salahuddin) was explaining resonates with me as a player because I’ve experienced those situations.

This will definitely help develop my coaching skills.”

The first workshop had 12 students, and organizers plan to introduce an online coaching workshop soon to accommodate coaches who are not based in Dhaka.
