Hasan Mahmud, Bangladesh's pace bowler, set to replace the injured Taskin Ahmed for the USA T20I series.

Bangladesh versus USA T20I Series, 2024

Hasan Mahmud was designated to fill in for the injured Taskin during the US tour.

Hasan also has the potential to secure a spot in Bangladesh’s World Cup squad.

Bangladesh’s pace bowler Hasan Mahmud is set to join the national cricket team on their journey to the USA for the upcoming three-match T20I series against USA.

The 24-year-old right-arm pacer is poised to step in for Taskin Ahmed, who recently suffered a side injury, ruling him out of contention for the series scheduled in Texas on May 21, 23, and 25.

Hasan, who has played 17 T20Is for Bangladesh, last appeared in this format against Afghanistan in Sylhet back in July last year.

Although Bangladesh plans to travel with a 17-member squad for the USA T20Is, Taskin will accompany the team with hopes of a swift recovery, keeping his World Cup prospects alive.

However, if Taskin fails to recover in time, Hasan Mahmud is slated to automatically secure his spot in the World Cup squad.

Changes to the World Cup squad can be made until May 25, following which the ICC T20 World Cup technical committee’s approval would be required for any further alterations.

A member of the selection panel affirmed Hasan’s inclusion for the USA tour, stating he is the prime candidate to replace Taskin if needed for the World Cup squad.

While awaiting Taskin’s injury report, a medical source conveyed optimism about Taskin’s potential recovery, indicating that it’s premature to rule him out entirely from the World Cup contention, considering the remaining time before the tournament.

On another note, Mohammad Saifuddin might not secure a place in the World Cup squad following disappointing performances, particularly his recent showing against Zimbabwe, where he conceded 55 runs in the final game.

Concerns have also been raised regarding his bowling strategy, with only six yorkers bowled out of 96 deliveries during the series.

Additionally, pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib is viewed favorably for a World Cup spot, while left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam’s inclusion hinges on Taskin’s availability for the prestigious event.
