2nd ODI

Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka has helped Sri Lanka to achieve series parity

Nissanka scored 114 runs off 113 balls.

Bangladesh scored 286/7 in 50 overs, where as Sri Lanka scored 287/7 in 47.1 overs.

So, finally Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets.

Pathum Nissanka’s stroke-filled innings of 114 off 113 balls, embellished with 13 fours and 3 sixes, alongside Charith Asalanka’s breezy 91 off 93, laid the groundwork for Sri Lanka’s series-leveling triumph over Bangladesh in the second ODI in Chattogram.

Admirable batting performances from Towhid Hridoy and Soumya Sarkar were effectively neutralized by the visiting side as they clinched the chase, albeit with a bit of late drama, with 17 balls and three wickets to spare.

Despite Litton Das’s early dismissal in the first over, Bangladesh initiated strongly with a sturdy 75-run partnership between Sarkar and the centurion of the previous game, Najmul Hossain Shanto.

However, the skipper’s departure for 40, courtesy of Dilshan Madushanka, led to Sarkar teaming up with Hridoy.

The duo contributed 55 runs for the third wicket before Wanindu Hasaranga ended Sarkar’s innings.

Bangladesh encountered turbulence in the middle overs, sliding from 130 for 2 in the 22nd over to 189 for 6 in the 36th, with Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz departing cheaply.

Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Taskin Ahmed, the No.8 and 9 batsmen for Bangladesh, provided vital support to Hridoy, who crafted an unbeaten 96 off 102 deliveries, comprising 3 fours and 5 sixes.

Their partnerships of 47 and 50 runs respectively propelled Bangladesh to a total of 286 for 7.

Although Sri Lanka initially stumbled to 43 for 3 in the seventh over, opener Nissanka and Asalanka orchestrated a resolute counterattack that shattered Bangladesh’s aspirations.

Nissanka, who had previously scored a double hundred and a century against Afghanistan, notched up his fifth ODI century in the 32nd over.

Meanwhile, Asalanka’s aggressive fifty, marked by four sixes including one to bring up his milestone, further tilted the momentum in Sri Lanka’s favor.

Sri Lanka’s progress was abruptly halted in the 37th over when Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed Nissanka’s wicket with a catch in the deep off a slog sweep.

Asalanka’s dismissal in the following over, caught behind off Taskin Ahmed, momentarily put Sri Lanka in a precarious position despite requiring just 52 runs for victory.

Wanindu Hasaranga, after claiming four wickets in the first innings, contributed valuable runs with the bat to ensure Sri Lanka thwarted any hopes of a late resurgence from Bangladesh.
