On Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that their all-format away series against Afghanistan scheduled for July has been rescheduled.

Afghanistan Cricket Board was set to host Bangladesh for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is after the ICC T20 World Cup.

Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, confirmed to Cricpulse that “the away series against Afghanistan will be rescheduled after both boards agreed to play the series at some other point in time.”

Originally slated to participate in 12 Tests in 2024 alongside other white-ball commitments, Bangladesh will now partake in only eight Tests.

This adjustment follows the rescheduling of their two-match Test series against Zimbabwe from May, opting instead for a series of five T20Is.

Despite this alteration, Bangladesh’s 2024 calendar remains packed.

Post the T20 World Cup, they are scheduled to tour Pakistan for a two-match Test series, followed by a series in India comprising two Tests and three T20Is.

In October, Bangladesh will host South Africa for a two-match Test series, while November-December will see them traveling to the West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.

The return of talismanic all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is a significant boost for Bangladesh.

Shakib has informed the board of his readiness to play regularly across all formats for the country.

Shakib recently made his return to Test cricket after a year-long absence, featuring in the ongoing two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

He opted to play the second Test after missing the opening game and had earlier skipped the entire white-ball series.

His hiatus was due to a desire to ensure his eyesight issue, which had persisted since the ICC World Cup and into the initial stages of the Bangladesh Premier League, was fully resolved.

Jalal added, “He (Shakib) is ready to play in all three formats in the coming days unless there are fitness issues, and that is good news for us considering his experience is essential for our team.”

Previously, Shakib had indicated he would decide on his international cricket future after the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

BCB is now expecting him to be available without disruption until that point.
