Australia Tour of New Zealand T20I Series, 2024

Devon Conway has been withdrawn from the final T20I and Warner has been ruled out.

Conway sustained a thumb injury during the 2nd T20I.

Wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway has been withdrawn from New Zealand’s T20I squad for the final fixture due to an injury sustained in the second game on Friday (February 23).

Tim Seifert has been called in as his replacement.

Conway suffered a thumb injury while keeping and was unable to bat during New Zealand’s chase.

He will now head back home to Wellington for further assessment by a hand specialist to determine the extent of the injury.

Seifert, who was initially sidelined with a torn abductor, has successfully cleared a fitness test in Hamilton, allowing him to rejoin the squad for the final T20I at Eden Park.

In addition, fast bowler Jacob Duffy will be included in the squad to provide cover for the bowling unit.

Rachin Ravindra, who missed the second game due to a left knee injury, will be under observation over the next 24 hours to assess his availability for the last game on Sunday (February 25).

As a precautionary measure, New Zealand is expected to add extra batting cover, with an announcement anticipated later on Saturday (February 24).

David Warner is anticipated to recover in time for the commencement of the IPL.

David Warner has been ruled out:

Opener David Warner has been ruled out of the last game of the series due to an adductor injury in the Australia camp.

However, Cricket Australia has assured that this setback will not impact his involvement in the upcoming IPL in March and the subsequent T20 World Cup.

In Warner’s absence, Steve Smith will partner Travis Head at the top of the order for the final match.

Additionally, Australia is anticipated to rest Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for Sunday’s fixture.

With the visitors already securing the series 2-0, this decision aligns with strategic planning for player welfare and preparation for future engagements.
