Michael Klinger has joined Gujarat Giants for WPL 2024.
Former Australia cricketer Michael Klinger has been appointed as the head coach of the Gujarat Giants
ahead of the second season of the Women’s Premier League, which kicks off on February 23 in Bangalore.
He joins a distinguished backroom staff featuring Mithali Raj as mentor and advisor and Nooshin Al Khadeer as bowling coach.
Klinger brings a wealth of coaching experience, having most recently served as assistant coach with the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League and as head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL from 2019 to 2021.
Renowned as the highest-ever run-scorer in the BBL upon his retirement in 2019, Klinger aims to guide the Gujarat Giants to success in WPL Season 2.
“The Gujarat Giants have an opportunity to achieve something extraordinary in the upcoming Women’s Premier League season.
I am thrilled to collaborate with the cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who has made significant contributions to women’s cricket in India.
Alongside the Adani Sportsline family and the entire team, I am determined to lead the Giants to glory,” Klinger expressed.
Raj praised Klinger’s appointment and believes his expertise will enhance the team’s performance, particularly with batting.
“Michael’s presence will undoubtedly bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players.
His renowned batting expertise will be invaluable, especially for our younger squad members.
We eagerly anticipate his contributions in the dressing room and are confident of achieving success under his leadership as head coach,” Raj remarked.
Gujarat Giants will commence their WPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on February 25.
