IBRAHIM ZADRAN WILL REMAIN AS THE STAND-IN CAPTAIN FOR SRI LANKA IN THE UPCOMING T20Is
Ibrahim Zadran is set to resume his role as captain for Afghanistan in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, as regular skipper Rashid Khan continues his recovery from back surgery.
Unfortunately, Mujeeb Zadran, who sustained a hand injury before the start of the ODI series, and pacer Mohammad Saleem Safi, sidelined with a hamstring strain, will be unavailable for selection.
In their absence, Wafadar Momand, who has previously played one T20I for Afghanistan back in July 2023, has been included in the squad.
The squad comprises Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Mohammad Ishaq Rahimi (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad, Naveen Ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Wafadar Momand, and Qais Ahmad.
“We are keeping a close eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup, and we aim to prepare a balanced squad consisting of both experienced players and promising youngsters,” stated chief selector Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil.
“This series, along with the three T20Is against Ireland in March, provides us with an excellent opportunity to assess our depth and finalize our squad for the mega event.”
Naseeb Khan, the CEO of ACB, emphasized, “Consistently providing exposure to our young players has been a priority for us, and we have successfully maintained this commitment.
Building a strong bench strength is crucial, and Qais Ahmad’s role in filling in for Rashid Khan exemplifies this strategy.”
