The incident took place during the 81st over of England’s second innings.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has received an official reprimand for a level 1 breach of the ICC code of conduct during Day 4 of the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad. This breach occurred when Bumrah deliberately obstructed Ollie Pope’s path while attempting a run. This incident marked Bumrah’s first offence in 24 months, resulting in the addition of a demerit point to his record.
“The pacer was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match),” the ICC stated.
The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s second innings, and charges were leveled by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit.
Bumrah accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, obviating the need for a formal hearing.
Despite Bumrah’s notable performance, taking six wickets in the match, including a four-wicket haul in the second innings, England secured victory by 28 runs, overcoming India’s 190-run first innings lead.
