Wicketkeeper-batter Bess Heath and all-rounders Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson will make their debut in England’s T20 World Cup setup, as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squad for the multi-team event in the UAE this October.

Heather Knight will captain the team for the fourth time in a T20 World Cup.

The squad largely mirrors the one that faced New Zealand in the five-match T20I series in July, with the only exception being Lauren Filer, who has been left out.

However, Filer will join the team for their preparation camp in Abu Dhabi from September 13 to 24.

As many as 12 members of the current squad were part of England’s team for the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Lauren Winfield-Hill, Kate Cross, and Katherine Sciver-Brunt (who has since retired) are the three who are not included in the 2024 lineup.

Danielle Gibson was with the team in 2023 but only as a traveling reserve.

Commenting on the squad, captain Heather Knight expressed her excitement: “World Cups are always special events to be involved in as a player, and I’m really excited about the squad we have selected to take over to the UAE.

It’s an honor to lead the team into another World Cup.

We’re looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Head coach Jon Lewis added: “Selecting teams and squads with this group of players has become incredibly tricky and tough.

There are players who have been really unfortunate to miss out, and they’ll be a big part of what we do with England Cricket in the future.

“I believe the 15 players selected give us a well-balanced squad in terms of experience, youth, and most importantly, the skills to cope and excel in the conditions we expect to face in the UAE.”

England, placed in Group B, will open their campaign against Bangladesh on October 5.

They will then play South Africa on October 7, followed by a five-day break.

Scotland (October 13) and West Indies (October 15) will be their final two group stage opponents.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
