India all-rounder Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded and handed one demerit point for giving a send-off after dismissing Pakistan’s Nida Dar.

The incident took place during the 20th over of Pakistan’s innings when Reddy pointed towards the pavilion following Dar’s dismissal.

This is Reddy’s first offence within the two-year window specified by the ICC for accumulating demerit points.

Four demerit points within this period will result in a match ban.

The ICC stated, “Reddy was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to ‘using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon their dismissal during an International Match.’”

Reddy did not contest the sanction proposed by the Match referee.

While the reprimand marked a sour note, the match itself proved to be a memorable one for Reddy.

She was named Player of the Match for her three-wicket haul, leading India to their first victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, after a defeat in their opening match against New Zealand.
