Shreyanka Patil, the India off-spinner, has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2024 due to a fractured finger, the Asian Cricket Council stated in a media release on Saturday (July 20).
Patil, who suffered the injury during India’s opening game against Pakistan, will be replaced by Tanuja Kanwer.
Patil sustained the injury while attempting to take a catch in the second game of the Asia Cup.
She fractured the fourth finger of her left hand but managed to bowl until the end of Pakistan’s innings, delivering 3.2 overs and finishing with figures of 2-14 as Pakistan were bowled out for 108.
Earlier this year, during WPL 2024, Patil had suffered a hairline fracture on the same hand and missed a few of RCB’s games before making a comeback at the business end of the tournament.
She returned to pick up a four-fer in the final, setting up the title win for RCB against DC.
With that, Patil secured the Purple Cap and was also voted the Emerging Player of the Season.
Kanwer, Patil’s replacement, also had a strong WPL 2024, finishing as Gujarat Giants’ leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps in eight games at an average of 7.13.
This call-up marks the 26-year-old left-arm spinner’s maiden appearance for India, although she was already named among the traveling reserves for the Asia Cup.
Kanwer was also selected for the India A squad for the upcoming multi-format tour of Australia, starting August 7.
India won the match against Pakistan by seven wickets, chasing down the target in 14.1 overs.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will play UAE in their second game, which is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday (July 21).
