India scored 201/5 in 20 overs, where as UAE scored 123/7 in 20 overs.
So, finally India beat UAE by 78 runs.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s composed 66 and a blistering maiden half-century from Richa Ghosh (64 off 29 balls) powered India to their highest-ever T20I total of 201/5, leading to a crushing 78-run victory over UAE in their Women’s Asia Cup match in Dambulla on Sunday (July 21).
UAE’s decision to invite India to bat first proved costly, as Kaur and Ghosh’s contrasting half-centuries helped India achieve their first 200+ score in T20Is.
The chase faltered during the Power Play, and despite brief resistance from skipper Esha Oza and Kavisha Egodage, UAE never posed a serious threat.
India
The opening act ft. Verma & Mandhana
Power Play: 56/3 [RR: 9.33, 4s/6s: 6/2]
India’s opening pair quickly set the tone, making UAE regret their decision to bowl first.
Smriti Mandhana, after being beaten by the pacer, struck a slog-sweep for a boundary and followed it with a drive through the covers.
Shafali Verma took over, hitting Kavisha Egodage for boundaries and raising India’s fifty in just 4.2 overs.
UAE managed to strike back with Verma’s wicket and a dismissal of D Hemalatha, but the damage was done.
The consolidation job ft. Harmanpreet & Rodrigues
Middle overs: 87/1 [RR: 9.67, 4s/6s: 9/1]
With India stabilizing after a collapse, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues combined effectively, running well between wickets.
Rodrigues contributed 14 runs to the partnership without hitting a boundary, while Harmanpreet’s aggressive approach took India to a fifty stand in 35 balls.
Rodrigues fell soon after, but Richa Ghosh took advantage of a solid platform, hitting Esha Oza for five boundaries and setting up a massive total.
The late assault ft. Ghosh & Harmanpreet
Death overs: 58/1 [RR: 11.6, 4s/6s: 10/1]
Ghosh took over from where Rodrigues left off, scoring quickly and forming a strong partnership with Harmanpreet.
Harmanpreet reached her fifty off 41 balls and then accelerated with a flurry of boundaries before being run-out.
Ghosh ensured India finished strongly, hitting Hotchandani for boundaries on every ball of the final over, pushing the total to a daunting 201/5.
UAE
Pacers exert pressure, reap rewards
Power Play: 31/2 [RR: 5.16, 4s: 5]
UAE’s bowlers started with tight overs, but India’s openers managed a few boundaries. Pooja Vastrakar’s probing maiden over created pressure, leading to the dismissal of Theertha Satish. Despite a brief recovery, Vastrakar removed Rinitha Rajith, leaving UAE struggling during the PowerPlay.
Oza entertains, but UAE fall well behind
Middle overs: 63/2 [RR: 7, 4s/6s: 5/2]
Dharnidharka survived an early chance but fell to Deepti Sharma. Esha Oza tried to mount a comeback with some aggressive shots but lacked support. She was eventually stumped by Kanwar, and UAE’s required run rate climbed to 13.5.
Kavisha helps delay the inevitable
Death overs: 29/3 [RR: 5.8, 4s: 2]
With a huge target to chase, UAE’s lower order could not bridge the gap. Khushi Sharma and Hotchandani both fell trying to accelerate, but Kavisha Edodage’s 40* off 32 delayed the inevitable. Despite this, UAE’s net run rate suffered as they fell to a heavy defeat.
