Hosts Sri Lanka have named a familiar 15-woman squad for the upcoming Asia Cup T20.

Chamari Athapaththu will captain the side, which features many of the players who helped Sri Lanka secure their first-ever series win over South Africa in any format earlier this year.

Sri Lanka have placed their faith once again in Vishmi Gunaratne, the 18-year-old opener who displayed maturity beyond her years during the South Africa tour.

Kavisha Dilhari, the middle-order batter who was also among the runs on that tour, is included, as well as 26-year-old Harshitha Samarawickrama, whose composed half-century in the third and final T20I sealed the historic series win for Sri Lanka.

Wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani, left-arm bowler Udeshika Prabodhani, and right-arm pacer Achini Kulasuriya, who were not part of Sri Lanka’s home T20I series against the West Indies but played in the ODI leg, have been included in the Asia Cup squad following their impressive performances.

Sri Lanka had lost the T20I series to the West Indies but won the ODI leg 3-0.

Sri Lanka enters the tournament as one of the favourites, having beaten both England and South Africa in away T20I series over the past 12 months.
