Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle played crucial roles as West Indies secured a series-clinching six-wicket victory in the final T20I against Sri Lanka at Hambantota.
The visitors, who had been swept 0-3 in the preceding ODI series and lost the first match of the three-match T20I series, rallied to finish the tour on a high note.
In this series finale, they chased down a challenging target of 141 with one ball to spare.
West Indies started their chase strongly, with skipper Matthews and Stafanie Taylor adding 60 runs for the first wicket in eight overs before Taylor was dismissed LBW while attempting to swipe Kavisha Dilhari across the line.
Matthews then formed a crucial 51-run partnership with Shemaine Campbelle.
Despite Kawya Kavindi’s late double-strike, which included the wicket of Matthews for 49, West Indies managed to score the required six runs in the final over to clinch the win.
Campbelle remained unbeaten on 41 off 30 balls.
Earlier in the day, after being asked to bat, Sri Lanka posted a total of 141/7, built on a 39 (38) from veteran Chamari Athapaththu, while Harshitha Madavi and Kavisha Dilhari also contributed vital runs.
Despite reaching 91/2 midway through the 14th over, the hosts stumbled and finished just past 140, a decent score but ultimately insufficient.
