Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell are among the senior players skipping the Sri Lanka tour
Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein, and Shimron Hetmyer are among the senior West Indies players who have opted out of the T20I squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, citing personal reasons.
On the other hand, Evin Lewis returns to the T20I setup, having last played for West Indies in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Brandon King, sidelined recently due to a side injury, is also included in the squad, while all-rounders Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer have received their maiden call-ups.
Alzarri Joseph is part of the T20I squad after being rested during West Indies’ recent T20I series against South Africa.
However, Jason Holder continues to miss out as he remains rested after the South Africa series.
Rovman Powell retains his role as T20I captain, with Roston Chase serving as vice-captain.
Head coach Daren Sammy shared his thoughts on the squad: “The tour of Sri Lanka allows us to test our depth and evaluate players in different roles, especially with several senior players missing due to rest or rehabilitation needs.
We are confident this squad can compete strongly against Sri Lanka.”
The ODI squad features 17-year-old Jewel Andrew, an Antiguan wicketkeeper-batter.
Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford also make the team, with Shai Hope leading as captain and Alzarri Joseph serving as vice-captain.
“As we continue building our ODI team, this tour presents a valuable chance to refine our strategies and offer opportunities to emerging talent.
We are particularly excited about Jewel Andrew, who has earned his place and is a promising prospect for the future,” added Sammy.
West Indies’ tour of Sri Lanka begins with a three-match T20I series on October 13, 15, and 17 in Dambulla, followed by ODIs on October 20, 23, and 26 in Pallekele.
