Day-3 Morning Session Highlights:
Last-wicket stand has helped West Indies to secure a first-innings lead
At the Lunch of Day-3:
West Indies scored 457/10 (1st Innings), where as England scored 416/10 (1st Innings).
So, finally West Indies lead by 41 runs.
A 10th-wicket partnership of 71 helped West Indies secure a first-innings lead against England at Trent Bridge by lunch on day 3.
This commendable effort from the visitors came despite losing Jason Holder early in the day.
Holder, who looked solid before the close of play on day 2, edged Chris Woakes to the keeper shortly after play resumed.
West Indies suffered another setback when Gus Atkinson removed Kevin Sinclair, who edged one to gully where Harry Brook took an excellent catch.
England’s hopes of quickly wrapping up the innings received a massive boost when Woakes struck off consecutive deliveries, leaving West Indies nine down.
However, Joshua and Shamar Joseph frustrated England with a crucial half-century partnership for the final wicket, securing a lead.
After the fall of the ninth wicket, Joshua hammered a six over cover off Mark Wood to bring up his fifty and cleared the ropes again in the pacer’s next over, albeit with some luck.
To make matters worse for England, Joseph played aggressive shots at the other end, chipping away at the deficit and eventually surpassing England’s total.
Joseph took on Atkinson for a couple of sixes and a boundary in a single over, followed by Joshua targeting Joe Root as the score went past 450.
Wood finally broke the frustrating partnership, keeping West Indies’ lead to 41.
