After a challenging opening session that saw the top order collapse, this resurgence has reduced the deficit to 204 runs with 7 wickets still in hand.

Shoaib Bashir, who had taken two wickets earlier, started the session with a tight spell, but Athanaze found the boundary a couple of times off Chris Woakes.

Athanaze kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries, while Hodge was initially more cautious.

He was on 8 off 43 balls before breaking free with a boundary.

Mark Wood, who had bowled aggressively in the morning, returned in an attempt to break the partnership but was greeted with a couple of boundaries.

Hodge, having received a reprieve, began to assert himself after the drinks break, hitting out against Wood, Bashir, and Gus Atkinson.

Athanaze eventually reached his maiden Test fifty, and the partnership surpassed 100 runs.

Hodge, who became more aggressive in the latter part of the session, also brought up his fifty with a couple of boundaries, including a six over deep midwicket just before Tea.

West Indies’ strong performance in the session sets them up for a promising finish to the day.
