So, finally West Indies trial by 327 runs.

England struck thrice in the second hour of the morning session on day two to put West Indies on the back foot in the second Test at Trent Bridge.

The visitors had made a solid start in response to England’s 416, with the hosts failing to take a wicket in the first hour.

However, Shoaib Bashir claimed two wickets, and Gus Atkinson dismissed the well-set Kraigg Brathwaite, leaving West Indies reeling at 89/3.

Brathwaite, usually very cautious at the start, was the one finding boundaries consistently to begin the day.

Mikyle Louis also drove Atkinson past mid-off for his first boundary, leading to a change in bowlers with Mark Wood and Bashir coming on.

Wood consistently bowled at over 150 kmph, but it was Bashir who made the breakthrough.

Immediately after the drinks break, Louis, having hit a boundary, attempted another shot but top-edged and was dismissed for 21.

The critical moment came a few overs later when Brathwaite, who had been scoring boundaries regularly, mishandled a short delivery from Atkinson, resulting in a catch to short leg.

Kirk McKenzie then played a reckless shot just minutes before the break, further swinging the momentum in England’s favor as they regained control of the match.
