At the Tea of Day-1:

England scored 259/4 vs West Indies

Ollie Pope consolidated England’s strong start to the Trent Bridge Test against West Indies with a superb century in the second session on Day 1.

Following Ben Duckett’s quick start in the morning session, England entered the Tea break at 259/4, adding 125 runs in the session at a brisk rate of over four runs per over.

Pope reached his half-century early in the post-lunch session, but saw Joe Root depart for just 14 as the former captain top-edged a pull shot against Jayden Seales.

Pope received a reprieve when Jason Holder missed a chance at slip.

Harry Brook then took charge, hitting boundaries at will with five fours in just two overs to race to 24 off 12 balls, putting pressure on the visitors.

Pope regained momentum with consecutive boundaries, while Brook’s aggressive play threatened to shift the game in England’s favor until he was caught after mistiming a lap shot, prompting a bowling change that led to his dismissal.

Undeterred, Pope continued to accumulate boundaries, steadily advancing towards his century even as Ben Stokes struggled early on.

Eventually, Pope reached his hundred, compounding West Indies’ troubles, exacerbated by Shamar Joseph leaving the field due to injury.
