The Afghanistan Cricket Board has extended head coach Jonathan Trott’s contract for another 12 months, ensuring he remains in charge until the end of 2025.
This decision follows Trott’s successful two-and-a-half-year tenure, which has seen Afghanistan make significant progress on the international stage.
2024 has been a particularly memorable year for Afghanistan, highlighted by their historic semifinal appearance in the T20 World Cup.
The team also secured ODI series victories over South Africa and Bangladesh in Sharjah.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Afghanistan delivered strong performances, including wins over Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka, finishing in the top 8.
As a result, they have earned a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy, marking their first-ever participation in the tournament.
However, for the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe, Trott will only be in charge during the ODI series due to personal reasons.
For the T20I and Test matches, former players Hamid Hassan and Nawroz Mangal will step in as head coach and assistant coach, respectively.
