The rain sealed the fate of last year’s runner-up, Gujarat Titans, as their match against Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out, dashing their playoff hopes.
Conversely, it brought jubilation to the Knight Riders, securing them a top-two finish and the coveted advantage of a playoff safety net.
KKR last clinched a top-two finish a decade ago in 2014, coincidentally also winning the title that year.
This outcome also sets the stage for a knockout clash between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, with the defeated team exiting the competition.
While both Gujarat and KKR still hold sway over the table, with each having one game left, the Titans will face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on May 16, while KKR will take on Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19, marking the season’s final league match.
However, the washout does present a minor setback for KKR, as they miss the chance for game time at the same venue where they’ve now secured a playoff berth.
