Deepak Chahar and Mayank Yadav may have played their final games of this Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Both have suffered mid-season injuries, casting doubts on their participation in the remaining matches for their respective teams.
“Deepak’s injury is concerning.
While I won’t rule him out for the season yet, his availability is doubtful,” stated Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, regarding their key bowler who suffered a hamstring injury.
Chahar exited the field after delivering just two balls during their recent encounter against Punjab Kings at the Chepauk.
Chennai Super Kings are set to face PBKS again in their upcoming match in Dharamsala, but Chahar, a significant acquisition, hasn’t traveled with the team.
“He remains in Chennai,” confirmed Viswanathan.
“We’re awaiting a report from the medical team.”
Following the last match, coach Stephen Fleming expressed concern over Chahar’s condition.
“Deepak Chahar’s situation doesn’t look promising.
The initial assessment wasn’t positive, so we’re hopeful for a more favorable report from the physio and doctor,” Fleming had stated.
CSK is also grappling with other fitness issues.
Tushar Deshpande is currently unwell with flu, though he has traveled to Dharamsala along with Matheesha Pathirana, who missed the previous game due to a niggle.
“Their availability will only be known on Sunday,” mentioned the CSK CEO.
Despite a strong start to the season, Chennai has faced defeats in three of their last four matches, including consecutive losses to Lucknow Super Giants.
With 10 points from 10 games, they currently occupy the fifth position on the points table.
They require at least three wins in the remaining matches, and the injury setbacks have arrived at an inopportune time.
Similarly, Mayank Yadav exited Lucknow’s recent game after bowling 3.1 overs, with sources indicating a recurrence of the side strain that had sidelined him for a few matches previously.
Mayank’s impressive pace initially garnered attention in the IPL, even sparking discussions about his potential selection for the Indian side in the Twenty20 Cup.
However, fitness concerns have hindered his progress, raising doubts about his further participation for LSG this season.
With 12 points, Lucknow needs at least two more victories from their remaining four games to secure qualification for the playoffs.
Their next match is against Knight Riders on Sunday.
