After defeating Bangladesh in the lead-up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, the United States of America proved their win was no fluke by stunning Pakistan at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday (June 6).
The victory was a collective effort with several standout performances for the USA.
Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar bowled brilliantly to restrict Pakistan to 159/7 after the hosts opted to bowl.
Monank Patel, Aaron Jones, and Andries Gous made significant contributions with the bat, while Nitish Kumar played a crucial role, scoring 14 runs, including a boundary off the final ball to take the game into the Super Over.
Pakistan appeared off-color and lacked discipline in various phases of the match, including the Super Over, as the USA successfully defended 18 runs to secure a historic victory and move to the top of the Group A table.
What happened in the Super Over?
Aaron Jones and Harmeet Singh batted for the USA, with Jones hitting Mohammad Amir for a boundary off the first ball.
Although Amir bowled several wides, he did not concede any more boundaries.
The USA finished the over with 18 runs.
Saurabh Netravalkar bowled for the USA, starting with a dot ball to Iftikhar Ahmed.
