Cricket Canada confirmed that head coach Pubudu Dassanayake will stay on for the duration of the T20 World Cup following a board meeting that declined to ratify his informal dismissal.
Dassanayake was informed by assistant manager and Cricket Canada vice president Gurdeep Klair on Wednesday morning that he would be relieved of his duties after a warm-up tour to St. Kitts.
However, the board meeting that evening did not approve this decision.
“Hopefully we can put this all behind us.
We’ll be focusing on the cricket.
The team has worked very hard to get here, and we’re looking forward to our first match,” Dassanayake told Cricpulse.
In addition to retaining Dassanayake, Cricket Canada announced several notable changes to the final squad.
Spinner Nikhil Dutta, initially omitted, is included in the final 15, along with left-arm seamer Rishiv Joshi.
Batter Kanwarpal Tathgur and spin all-rounder Harsh Thaker did not make the cut.
Thaker criticized his omission on social media, expressing feelings of betrayal and disrespect due to poor communication.
Recovering from an injury, Thaker was dropped on fitness grounds, but he was aggrieved that the decision was made before a planned fitness test.
“It was determined that Thaker would not be fit to play the four matches in the Group Stage,” a Cricket Canada spokesman clarified.
Canada has two warm-up matches against Nepal and the Netherlands in Dallas next week, ahead of their first Group A match against hosts USA at the same ground on June 1.
