Assad Vala has been selected to lead Papua New Guinea’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.
This marks Vala’s second time leading a World Cup-bound squad, as he previously captained the team during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman.
Charles Amini has been appointed as Vala’s deputy in the squad, which features 10 of the 15 players who competed three years ago.
Additionally, Jack Gardener, previously a reserve in 2021, earns a spot in the squad this time, along with Hila Vare, Alei Nao, John Kariko, and Sema Kamea.
“The team’s energy has been fantastic,” expressed Vala.
“For those of us who participated in the previous T20 World Cup, the atmosphere now feels completely different, especially with our current training regimen.
Unlike last time, which occurred during the challenges of Covid, our preparation has been much more thorough.
I’m eagerly anticipating this event because I’m confident we’ll perform admirably.”
PNG secured their spot in the World Cup by leading the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier last year.
They find themselves in Group C, facing co-hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Uganda.
