Wanindu Hasaranga has re-joined the Test squad and likely to be absent for part of IPL

Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has reversed his decision to retire from Test cricket and has been named in the 17-man squad for the upcoming two-match series in Bangladesh.
Hasaranga had initially announced his retirement from Test cricket in August 2023 to focus on his white-ball career.
However, with less than a year remaining until the T20 World Cup, he was appointed as the captain of the national side in the shortest format.
Despite this, Hasaranga has now been included in the Test series scheduled from March 22 to April 3, which will impact his participation in the Indian Premier League.
If the second Test extends to all five days, Sunrisers Hyderabad, who acquired him for his base price of INR 1.5 Crore, will be deprived of his services for their first three games of the season on March 23, 27, and 31.
His availability for their fourth game, which falls on April 5, remains uncertain.
Hasaranga’s addition marks one of two changes to the Sri Lankan squad that faced Afghanistan in the recent one-off Test.
Alongside Hasaranga, off-spinner Nishan Peiris has been included, while Asitha Fernando and Milan Priyanth Rathnayake have been omitted.
The series commences with the first Test on March 22 in Sylhet, followed by the second game in Chattogram starting from March 30.
