South African cricketer Laura Wolvaardt’s century has dominated the Sri Lanka
South Africa Women scored 198/5 in 20 overs, where as Sri Lanka Women scored 119 in 18.2 overs.
So, finally South Africa Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 79 runs.
In the opening game of the three-match series at Willow moore Park, Benoni on Wednesday (March 27), Laura Wolvaardt made her mark with a remarkable century, scoring 102 off just 63 balls, as South Africa convincingly defeated Sri Lanka by 79 runs.
Put into bat on a favorable batting track, South Africa wasted no time in asserting dominance.
Although Tazbin Brits’ time at the crease was brief, Marizanne Kapp (60 off 40 balls) partnered with Wolvaardt to build an explosive 116-run partnership in just 79 deliveries.
Wolvaardt, with her onslaught of 12 fours and three sixes, overshadowed Kapp’s powerful display, propelling South Africa to their second-highest total in T20Is.
Facing a daunting target of 199, Sri Lanka relied heavily on their skipper, Chamari Athapaththu, but her early dismissal in the first over by Kapp dashed any hopes of a successful chase.
Despite some spirited efforts from Harshitha Samarawickrama (38 off 33) and Hasini Perera (30 off 18), Sri Lanka fell short as the target proved insurmountable.
With a formidable total to defend, South Africa’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure on Sri Lanka’s batsmen, resulting in a one-sided affair.
