So, finally South Africa lead by 382 runs.
South Africa’s dominance over Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Durban remained unbroken after a wicketless morning session on Day 3.
Both Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs stroked half-centuries, extending their partnership to over 100 runs, with the lead now nearing 400.
No team has ever chased a target greater than 352 against South Africa in Test cricket.
Bavuma struck the boundary off just the second ball of the day, but Sri Lanka’s bowlers initially kept the duo quiet.
Stubbs, who had been on 19 off 68 balls at one point, broke the shackles with a reverse sweep against Prabath Jayasuriya, followed by a punch through covers off the same bowler.
Vishwa Fernando found the outside edge of both Bavuma and Stubbs in back-to-back overs, but the first opportunity fell short, and the second was dropped at first slip by Angelo Mathews.
Undeterred, Bavuma took on Jayasuriya, and in doing so, registered his first-ever twin fifties in a Test match.
Shortly after, Stubbs reached his fifty off 117 balls as Sri Lanka continued to search for a breakthrough.
The pair continued to score freely, with Stubbs even stepping down the track to Dhananjaya de Silva to hit a six.
With plenty of time left in the match, the visitors face a long and frustrating day ahead.
