Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series and Josh Hull is named as his replacement
Josh Hull, the Leicestershire pacer, has earned his first England call-up after Mark Wood was ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against Sri Lanka due to a muscle strain sustained during the first Test in Manchester.
Wood suffered the injury on the third day at Old Trafford and was unable to bowl on the final day.
Scans later confirmed a strain in his right thigh muscle, as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a media release on Sunday, August 25.
Standing at 6ft 7in, Hull has been a standout performer for Leicestershire and played a pivotal role in their One-Day Cup victory in 2023.
He recently made his England Lions debut against Sri Lanka, taking 5 for 74 and leading the team to a seven-wicket win.
England secured a five-wicket victory in the opening Test, with the second Test set to be played at Lord’s from August 29.
