So, finally England lead by 390 runs.
England extended their lead to 390 runs on the third morning, reaching lunch at Lord’s in a commanding position.
Sri Lanka made steady progress, taking three wickets during the session, but England managed to add 134 runs to their overnight total and remained well in control of the Test match.
Ben Duckett, unbeaten overnight on 15, could only add nine runs before being caught behind off Milan Rathnayake.
The catch was a relay effort, rebounding off the gully’s hands and settling into Angelo Mathews’ hands at slip.
Both Rathnayake and Lahiru Kumara troubled the batsmen with some tight bowling in the favorable overhead conditions during their four-over opening spells.
Ollie Pope, however, struggled against the short ball.
Asitha Fernando dismissed the England captain with just one delivery, as Pope attempted a pull shot but instead cut the ball uppishly to a fielder at deep point, with the legside field packed.
Sri Lanka’s task was further complicated when Nishan Madushka dropped Harry Brook on 16, and Brook immediately punished the error by hitting Prabath Jayasuriya for a six on the next ball.
Brook and Joe Root then added 58 runs for the fourth wicket before Brook was eventually caught off Jayasuriya’s bowling in the deep, with Madushka making the catch this time.
