2nd Test
Day-1 Morning Session Highlights:
Sri Lanka team has capitalized early with the crucial breakthroughs
At The Lunch of Day-1:
England scored 97/3 vs Sri Lanka
On the opening morning of the second Test at Lord’s, Sri Lanka dominated with three crucial English wickets after winning the toss on a sunny day in London.
Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva’s decision to bowl was initially met with mixed reactions, but his bowlers justified the choice with a disciplined performance, spearheaded by the returning Lahiru Kumara.
The visitors benefited from some loose strokes by the England batsmen.
The pitch offered a hint of swing and seam, as is typical for the first day of a Test in England, though not excessively so.
Ben Duckett and Daniel Lawrence began cautiously as the Lankan seamers took time to settle.
Kumara set up Lawrence brilliantly, inducing an edge with a delivery that shaped away following a series of inswingers that had forced the England opener to shuffle.
Stand-in captain Ollie Pope’s poor series continued when he mistimed a short ball from Asitha Fernando, giving Sri Lanka a second breakthrough.
Duckett, however, looked increasingly assured with his aggressive style, hitting several well-timed boundaries.
Together with Joe Root, he seemed poised to guide England through to lunch without further loss.
But Sri Lanka made a significant breakthrough with the introduction of spin.
Prabath Jayasuriya struck on his fourth delivery, dismissing Duckett with a reverse sweep that was expertly fielded at deep point.
Harry Brook and Root managed to see the session through, but Sri Lanka emerged as the morning’s victors.
