The Bangladesh Cricket Board officials stated on Monday that a decision regarding Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the Kanpur Test will be made following a medical assessment.
Shakib sustained a finger injury while batting in the opening Test against India in Chennai, after being struck by a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, which required some treatment.
“We are traveling to Kanpur tomorrow (Tuesday) and today is a day off.
We will hold two practice sessions afterward and will make a judgment on Shakib’s availability for the second Test then; we prefer not to make any hasty decisions,” said Hannan Sarkar, a member of the BCB’s selection panel, while speaking to reporters in Chennai on Monday.
“The physio has kept him under observation over these two days.
Once we return to the ground, we will seek feedback from the physio.
It’s crucial to assess Shakib’s condition before finalizing our selection for the next match, but we have some time to evaluate this,” he added.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain mentioned that they did not utilize Shakib as a bowler, as he felt confident in the performance of the other bowlers and downplayed any injury concerns regarding the left-arm spinner.
Hannan shared this perspective, clarifying that Shakib had no issues with his finger prior to the opening Test.
“We understand the discussions surrounding the pain in his hand.
It wasn’t an issue before the match, and many have tried to interpret it in various ways.
However, we received a 100 percent clearance from the physio before the game, confirming he was fully fit,” explained Hannan.
“You can’t classify this as an injury.
The discomfort he experienced in that finger wasn’t present before the match; it arose once he began to bowl,” he concluded.
