Sanath Jayasuriya, the former Sri Lanka batter, has been appointed as the full-time head coach of the Sri Lanka men’s team.
This decision was made by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Effective from October 1, 2024, Jayasuriya’s contract will run until March 31, 2026.
He was initially named interim head coach earlier this year after serving as a cricket consultant for Sri Lanka Cricket.
His first task as interim head coach was the white-ball series against India at home, where India won the T20I series.
However, Sri Lanka performed admirably in the ODIs, with the first match ending in a tie, followed by victories in the next two games, marking their first bilateral series win against India since 1997.
The team also showed resilience in England, losing the first two Tests but bouncing back to secure a victory in the third Test at The Oval.
As the full-time head coach, Jayasuriya’s inaugural assignment will be the home series against West Indies, which commences on October 13 and features three T20Is and three ODIs.
