Bangladesh men’s team batting coach David Hemp will not be involved with the side during their tour of the West Indies.
Instead, newly appointed senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin will take charge of the batting department in the Caribbean.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had previously been hesitant to hire local coaches, but the board’s newly-appointed president, Faruque Ahmed, has changed that approach by appointing Salahuddin as the senior assistant coach.
Salahuddin, whose contract runs until March 15 next year, begins his second stint with the team during this tour of the West Indies.
Hemp, who joined the BCB as High Performance head coach in May 2023 and later became the national team’s batting coach, did not travel with the team to the West Indies.
He is currently in Bangladesh and is expected to return to his previous role as the High Performance head coach.
“Hemp is not part of the team as we have appointed Mohammad Salahuddin as senior assistant coach.
He will look after our batting,” BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told Cricpulse on Wednesday.
Nafees also announced that India’s Akshay Hiremath has been appointed as the performance analyst for the West Indies tour, replacing Mohsin Sheikh.
